Cordell W. Samuels

Cordell W. Samuels is a member of the 2008-2009 Board of Trustees for the Water Environment Federation (WEF), an international organization of water quality professionals headquartered in Alexandria, Va.

He is currently the Plant Superintendent for the Duffin Creek WPCP in the Regional Municipality of Durham in Ontario, Canada. In that capacity, Cordell manages all aspects of one of the largest wastewater treatment plants in Ontario which is presently undergoing an expansion that will approximately double its size. Prior to his current position, Cordell worked in various positions from grade 4 Operator to Team Coordinator at Ashbridges Bay Treatment Plant in the City of Toronto, where he was responsible for all areas of shift operations and maintenance including training and staff development.

Cordell has been a WEF member since 1994 and served on the Federation’s House of Delegates and several committees including collection systems and Operations Challenge.  He has been an active member of both the Water Environment Association of Ontario (WEAO) and the Canadian Water and Wastewater Association (CWWA), serving in a number of positions including a term as WEAO’s President in 2005.

A member of the Select Society of Sanitary Sludge Shovelers, Cordell has received a number of WEF awards including the Hatfield Award in 1996 and several Service Awards for Operations Challenge and the Collection System committee. He holds a Class IV Wastewater Treatment and Class IV Collection Systems License in the Province of Ontario and received the Ordinary National Diploma in Engineering (O.N.C.) and the Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (H.N.D. Mech. Eng.) from Leeds Metropolitan University in Leeds, Yorkshire, England.
